The NBA announced today that Memphis Grizzlies forward/center Jaren Jackson Jr. has been selected as a reserve for the 74th NBA All-Star Game. The highly anticipated event will take place at the Chase Center in San Francisco on Sunday, February 16, at 7 p.m. CT, airing on TNT and TruTV. This marks Jackson Jr.’s second career All-Star nod, following his selection as a reserve in 2023.
In his seventh NBA season, Jackson Jr. has been a cornerstone for the Grizzlies, starting all 45 games and posting career-high averages of 22.8 points, 6.2 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 1.4 steals, and 1.6 blocks in just 29.5 minutes per game. His stellar performance has propelled Memphis to a 31-16 record, securing third place in the competitive Western Conference.
The 25-year-old standout recently earned his first Western Conference Player of the Week award, further solidifying his status as one of the league’s elite players. Jackson Jr. is the only NBA player this season to achieve at least 50 three-pointers, 50 steals, and 50 blocks, showcasing his versatility on both ends of the court.
Jackson Jr. ranks fifth in the NBA in points per 36 minutes and is the leading scorer for the Grizzlies, who boast the highest-scoring offense in the league this season. Memphis is on pace to set a new franchise record with 123.3 points per game. Additionally, Jackson Jr. is averaging a career-high 12.2 points in the paint per game (11th in the NBA), helping the team rank second in the league with 57.1 paint points per game.
Defensively, the 2022-23 NBA Defensive Player of the Year continues to shine. Jackson Jr. anchors a Grizzlies defense that ranks seventh in defensive rating (110.5), third in blocks (6.1), and sixth in steals (9.2). Individually, he ranks seventh in blocks per game and 28th in steals per game, making him the only player in the NBA to rank in the top 10 for blocks and the top 30 for steals.
Jackson Jr.’s defensive prowess was further highlighted in December 2024, when he was named Western Conference Defensive Player of the Month. This season, he is holding opponents to just 40.4% shooting as the closest defender, the best defensive field goal percentage in the league among players with at least 500 field goal attempts defended.
With this All-Star selection, Jackson Jr. joins an elite group of Grizzlies players to receive multiple All-Star honors, including Zach Randolph (2010, 2013), Marc Gasol (2012, 2015, 2017), and Ja Morant (2022, 2023).
