Ben Kuenemann art exhibit

now through Tuesday, Sept. 12

8 a.m.-5 p.m. weekdays

Lakeway City Hall Art Gallery, 1102 Lohmans Crossing

Lakeway artist Ben Kuenemann is displaying his paintings through Sept. 12 in a free exhibit at Lakeway City Hall, 1102 Lohmans Crossing. The exhibit is open to the public during normal business hours of 8 a.m.-5 p.m. weekdays. Kuenemann was born in El Paso in 1937. He grew up in Houston and graduated from UT Austin in May 1959 with an engineering degree. He met his wife, Sylvia, his first day at work after college and they married in 1960. They have two children and four grandchildren. In 1964 he left his engineering career behind and went to work for IBM. Four years later he left IBM and held increasingly responsible data processing related jobs in industry. In 1996 he retired from a New York City brokerage firm as senior managing director and chief technology officer to live on a golf course in Lakeway. To supplement golf, his wife encouraged him to take some evening painting classes at Lake Travis High School. Kuenemann began to paint watercolors on a regular basis in 2006 after a knee replacement cut into his golf regimen. Much of his subject matter is drawn from their travels. He uses shadows and people to provide depth and mood to his paintings. He is active in his neighborhood HOA and reads scholarship applications for the UT Scholarship Committee. For information, call Lakeway City Hall at 512-314-7500.
